Prospective Graduate Students
Our faculty members are committed to training leaders of the next generation of neuroscientists. The Ph.D. program is organized by and administered through the Scripps Research Skaggs Graduate School of Chemical and Biological Sciences. Students who apply and are accepted into the program, and who then elect to pursue graduate research in the Department of Neuroscience at UF Scripps in Jupiter, FL, may elect to obtain their Ph.D. degree in the Biological Sciences. This provides for broad training, which is exceptionally important in modern biology, but with in-depth neuroscience training provided by faculty members of the department. All Neuroscience faculty members are committed to participating in the graduate education mission of the Institute by teaching graduate level courses and by providing instruction within the individual laboratories.
The research of the faculty is broad and bound by the common interest of understanding the structure and function of the brain.
Research interests of our Neuroscience Department faculty include:
- Information processing in the nervous system
- Learning and memory
- Molecular biology of synapse structure and function
- Neuronal molecular transport systems
- Epigenetics of drug abuse
- Neurotransmitter receptor structure and signaling
- Organization of the neocortex
- Sleep
- Diseases of the brain including Alzheimer’s, autism, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, etc.
